Ethical Investments
Advising clients on ethical investments is a key part of our business. Where we have a particular expertise, our knowledge and experience add real value to our clients.
A growing number of investors do not want to invest in companies that pollute or damage the environment, deal in the arms trade or support oppressive regimes. Many prefer not to invest in companies that profit from gambling or pornography. More clients both private and corporate are asking about ethical and socially responsible investments.
The term 'ethical investment, (also known as 'Socially Responsible Investment'), refers to an investor making a conscious decision to take issues such as human rights, animal testing, pollution etc into consideration when deciding where to invest their monies.
Focusing on ethical criteria does not mean that investment return becomes a second priority. At Mackenzie Financial Planning we believe that you do not have to sacrifice your principles to make money. Whatever form your investments take, whether Unit Trusts or OEICs, Pension Funds or ISAs, your funds can perform just as well as they would if the ethical criteria were not in place.
In recent years the choice of SRI funds has grown; there is now a choice of funds in different sectors, from bonds to equities, and also multi-manager funds, which means we can apply the same selection process as we would to non SRI funds. The wide range of funds available apply negative or positive criteria and all shades of green are catered for to meet your personal concerns. Request our fact sheet for an explanation of the terminology and SRI investments.
